The hourglass is an integral part of the MK1 storyline and needed to do hourglass things. I have to admit, the motion of this thing had me far more stumped than I'd like to admit. Shoutout to Joe Zanco for literally drawing me a picture of how it should work (he draws a lot of good pictures, give him a look)
